His Holiness the Dalai Lama recently visited the University of Wisconsin's Center for Healthy Minds at the invitation of his longtime friend and collaborator, renowned neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson. During his visit, Dr. Davidson and Tergar Instructor Cortland Dahl had the opportunity to spend some time with His Holiness to discuss some important new initiatives that the center is working on. Cortland was also one of five scientists who presented their research to the Dalai Lama and were able to ask important questions about the scientific study of meditation and well-being. Cortland's presentation focused on a scientific model that encapsulates a broad range of meditation practices and attempts to identify their potential impact on the mind, brain, and the way in which they might impact different aspects of well-being.The Dalai Lama also participated in a live-streamed discussion with a talented panel of experts sponsored by The Center for Healthy Minds, entitled “The World We Make.” The goal of the event was to explore ways to cultivate well-being in ourselves, our communities and the world.
