Hi – I’m hoping to attend the Science of Meditation retreat in October. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay nearby? I think I will have a car, but would appreciate places in walking distance too.

    Thanks!

We have a link to hotels in the Roseville area, and it is on the website for the event. There is also a travel info sheet with information about the airport, etc. Unfortunately, there is nowhere that is within walking distance of the conference center. Some hotels do have shuttles back and forth, so call them to ask. Weekends can be weird with no business travelers, but the sheet should tell you if they provide shuttles. The Marriott Courtyard has a restaurant in it (another issue without a car) and is just down from the Residence Inn.

      See you in October!

      Hi Kathy,

I just saw your posting. I have reservations at Residence Inn (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mspmw-residence-inn-minneapolis-downtown-at-the-depot/) I stayed there for JOL3 last fall. It’s close to the tram station and the rooms have a full kitchen. Have you made your reservations yet? If not, perhaps we could go in together on car rental. I arrive Friday and leave Mon. am.

      Hi Kathy!
Nothing really in walking distance. Car is definitely needed. We have housed visiting guests at Residence Inn in Roseville, MN http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/mspro-residence-inn-minneapolis-st-paul-roseville/

There’s a bunch of hotels in that area. It’s only a 7-10 min drive to the UMN Conf Center from those hotels – VERY easy route. I drove Khandro Rinpoche back/forth each day and it was really easy.

If you are not familiar with http://www.kayak.com, it can be very helpful for researching airfare and car rental rates. I recommend to book directly with the selected company (i.e. Delta, Alamo, Residence) as opposed to a third party site (Expedia, Travelocity, etc) but Kayak can provide a snapshot of current rates & availability.

Caveat – the airline results may do not show “small” carriers, such as Southwest (yea!), Spirit (boo!) or Jetblue (yea!) so if any of these carriers fly from your gateway city, be sure to check their websites directly.

Whew! I think that’s more than you asked for.. :oP
