Nectar of the Path

"Wherever you are, whatever you do, it’s essential to acknowledge your experience as something ordinary, the natural expression of your true mind. If you don’t try to stop whatever is going on in your mind, but merely observe it, eventually you’ll begin to feel a tremendous sense of relaxation, a vast sense of openness within your mind - which is in fact the natural mind, the naturally unperturbed background against which various thoughts come and go."

— Mingyur Rinpoche

Course curriculum

Module 1: The Four Thoughts

In the first module of the Nectar of the Path Course we will explore our understanding of the four thoughts that turn the mind towards the dharma. This exploration begins with finding an appreciation of this precious human life. We then reflect on the impermanence of all phenomena and examine the law of karma — causes and conditions. To conclude, we contemplate the suffering of samsara and how we so often are the creator of our own suffering.

Module 2: Refuge

In the second module of our exploration of the Nectar of the Path we will focus on refuge. We begin this exploration by looking into the meaning of refuge and why it is that we take refuge. From there we explore the different forms of refuge and how these mutually reinforce one another. We conclude this module by looking into the practice of refuge and how to use imagination to create a deep sense of connection with the enlightened qualities that are present within and around us.

Module 3: Bodhicitta

In our third module of the Nectar of the Path Course we will focus on motivation and explore the topic of bodhichitta. The first two sections will focus on the essence of aspiration bodhichitta and application bodhichitta, respectively. We will then look into the topics of meditation and wisdom, the final two of the six paramitas, and see how these are essential to our path of awakening.

Module 4: Guru Yoga

In the final module of exploring the Nectar of the Path we will focus on the essence of Vajrayana practice — guru yoga. We will begin this exploration by looking into the importance of faith and devotion, and from there move on to take a closer look at guru yoga itself and how to practice this in our formal meditation. The last section relates to dedication in which we conclude our practice by dedicating our efforts to the awakening of all beings.
